Central City Library Performance 指筝朝夕 筝筝日上(八)

On the 16th of February 2019, Zheng’s Music Studio was invited to perform at the Auckland Central Library as part of its Chinese New Year celebrations. At the start of the event, the guzheng was placed quietly at the centre of the stage. In the calm setting and attentive audience, the 21 strings came together to create a musical performance.

The programme featured a range of traditional pieces, including Harvest Festival Drums and Gongs, which depicts scenes of celebration and abundance; Yu Meiren, a classical Chinese-style work; Embroidered Pouch, expressing wishes and aspirations; High Mountain and Flowing Water, one of China’s Ten Great Classical Pieces; Spring Comes to Xiangjiang River, with strong regional folk character; The Red Blossoms of Dan Dan Flowers, portraying a joyful post-Long March landscape; Military Command, reflecting the spirit of ancient warriors; Liu Yang River, a well-known Chinese folk song; and Yao Ethnic Dance, which vividly depicts festive singing and dancing.

At the conclusion of the performance, the audience gave prolonged applause in appreciation of the students’ work. As a gesture of encouragement, the library staff presented certificates to the performers and took commemorative photos with them.
