Papatoetoe Library Performance
May in New Zealand is known for its changeable weather, but it is also ‘Music Month,’ with performances and events held across the country to celebrate and share music with the wider community.
On the 21st of May 2020, Zheng’s Music Studio was invited to perform at Papatoetoe Library as part of New Zealand Music Month.
At the start of the programme, teacher Lin Zheng introduced the guzheng, explaining its structure, characteristics, and history. She then performed several classical works, including Fisherman’s Song at Dusk and Battling the Typhoon. The audience, mainly local residents, was deeply impressed by the expressive range and power of the instrument, with many asking questions after the performance.
The event received a very positive response and helped further interest in Chinese traditional music within the community. Zheng’s Music Studio remains committed to community engagement and cultural exchange, and continues to share the beauty of the guzheng with audiences across New Zealand.
