Thames Music Group Guzheng Concert 古筝专场音乐会圆满成功
On the 9th of March 2025, the Zheng’s Music Studio was invited by the committee of the Thames Music Group to present a special guzheng concert at St George’s Anglican Church in Thames. This concert was part of the group’s regular Sunday 2PM concert series. Since 1979, the Thames Music Group has consistently presented high-quality performances, offering rich musical experiences to local audiences.
Boya Guzheng presented a selection of classic works including Dance of the Golden Snake, Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix, Battling the Typhoon, Ballad of the Western Chamber, Fisherman’s Song at Dusk, New Song of Dongting Lake, Harvest Festival Drums and Gongs, Yao Ethnic Dance, Yu Meiren, Yi Ethnic Dance, Step by Step Higher, and A Laugh in the Vast Sea. These pieces spanned a variety of styles and traditions. At times the music was graceful and flowing, at others bold and passionate, with clear layers and rich emotional expression. The performance deeply captivated the audience, earning enthusiastic applause and continuous cheers.
After the performance, the audience remained highly engaged and came on stage to interact with the performers. They showed great interest in the guzheng’s tone, playing techniques, and expressive capabilities. Many asked detailed questions about the instrument’s history and techniques, while also sharing their own musical experiences and reflections.
Most of the audience members present were retirees from various professional fields, including experienced music teachers, founders of music institutions, and community residents with a strong passion for the arts. As a historic cultural town, Thames has a deep musical tradition, long supporting and appreciating diverse musical performances, and showing strong recognition of traditional music. This guzheng concert not only brought the artistic charm of Chinese traditional music to the audience, but also built a bridge of understanding and resonance through cultural exchange.
